Reproduction of antique model. Louis XV Italian Chair Italian chair with fully upholstered back, around the first third of the 18th Century. Original: private collection of an antiquarian in Lille (France).
The very generous style of this fine chair evokes Northern Italy in the elegance and strength of its forms. The fully upholstered back gives it a very intimist style. It is said that Nogaret, from Lyon, was inspired by the shapes of Piedmont and Northern Italy, and here one can also see magnificent succession of curves and counter curves with deep mouldings. The foliage edging round the upholstery of the seat is rectilinear.
Louis XV Style The French style period from approximately 1730 to 1770, although this king was on the throne from 1715 (the Regence period ran from 1715 to 1723) until 1774. Inspiration taken from plants, hence a curvilinear style.
