History of Christopher Guy
Christopher Guy, who was born in 1960 in Britain, spending his childhood in France and Spain, was first to discover his source of inspiration in the French Riviera, where he had an influential encounter with the smoothness and elegance of French design, working on his first construction project at age 16 together with his stepfather. With design as his newly discovered passion, Christopher Guy established Harrison & Gil in 1993, which would later re-launch as Christopher Guy, introducing the world to a collection of mirrors which would become a major success.
In the year 1999, Christopher Guy set up a plant in Java. Covering one million sqft and resembling a Moorish castle, it harbours a highly modern manufacturing facility used by 1400 craftspeople, among them carvers, woodcarvers and specialists for other types of finishes. Currently residing in London, which is also the location of the company‘s headquarters, Christopher Guy continues his extensive travels all around the globe, paying frequent visits to Java.
2005 was the year the company was proud to present its first assortment of luxirious furniture. Only a year later, Christopher Guy was given the Outstanding Design award by the British Interior Design Association. 2010 and 2011, Christopher Guy was given an award yet again, this time receiving the Certificate of Excellence (HA+D) and the Design Icon by the World Market Center Las Vegas respectively.
In 2014, famous London restaurant The Georgian was re-opened with an interior completely fit out with pieces from Christopher Guy‘s collections of furniture.
In the year 2017, Christopher Guy collaborated with Nourison, a rug manufacturer, creating a range of area rugs made for luxurious living spaces.
Christopher Guy: Elegance Is Key
Travelling around the globe, Christopher Guy never loses sight of potentially inspiring material. And unlike any other, he is a master of uniting various influences into a singular, harmonious design, bearing a contemporary mood with a classic note.
Most of all, Christopher Guy‘s pieces are characterized by elegance, the various expressions of which, the feminine form being one of them, the company and the man behind it never fail to discover anew, only to capture and translate them into elements of interior design. Such as in the case of Scarlett O‘Hara‘s delicate waistline and the elegant crossing of dancers‘ legs in ballet, prompting Christopher Guy to come up with a brilliant new idea: The Chris-X, a crossed leg design for chairs, which has a patent for the United States, Europe and China.
Christopher Guy‘s Sophisticated Creations
Entrusting an expert team of craftspeople with his concepts, all the products by Christopher Guy are hand-made – both manually carved and finished, being manufactured in-house or in Java. The materials used cover over 150 types of fabric and leather, such as fabrics made in Italy or fine Chinese silks.
Christopher Guy‘s entirely unique products are sought by interior designers, dealers and private customers worldwide, equipping hotels, resorts, luxurious residences and various film sets, among them Hollywood box-office hits like Casino Royale, The Devil Wears Prada and Hangover.
The many product types offered by Christopher Guy are seating, tables, storage items, furniture for bedrooms, mirrors, decor, rugs and lighting (such as chandeliers, floor lamps, table lamps and sconces).
The Le Jardin collection, for instance, presents a set of gorgeous chairs, paying tribute to Coco Chanel. Striking the eye with their high backs made from solid mahagoni wood and the emblematic cross-leg, they serve to exemplify the grace and classiness synonymous with French design. The intricate carving of the towering backs forms gently touching flowers rising from a coloured seat.
Among tables, one will discover marvellous pieces such as the Parisian Graffiti coffee table with its gilded cast aluminium base forming a dramatic curvature, which can be seen through the transparent glass top. A modern design, it combines simplicity with a strong statement.
