Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau is one of the modern styles in interior design. It received such popularity all over the world that in different countries, it used to be named in different ways. After a certain time of evolution, we have come to know it as Art Nouveau - the term accepted and recognized in every country of the world. People who want to see their residences created using this style appreciate its artistic and Avant-garde character expressed in curving lines, floral ornaments, the most extravagant decorative elements like feathers and spider webs on the walls, huge chandeliers made of Murano glass and semi-precious gems.

The New Vision of the World Through Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau was a true revolution moving from the world of art into the everyday life of everyone. It appeared at the end of the XIX century as a protest against historicism and traditional style in interior design. People wanted to see things around them which were not only functional but beautiful and pleasant. In the 1920s of the XX century, this modern style reached its peak and was forgotten for several decades, a fact which is hardly surprising, as it was extremely bright, extravagant and drew all the attention to itself. The middle of the previous century was difficult for each and every person on the Earth due to the wars, so such a vivid and extraordinary style like Art Nouveau simply could not exist. However, in the 1960s a new epoch of this beautiful style has been marked with art exhibitions in several capitals: Museum of Modern Art in New York and Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Since then, Art Nouveau has never left the throne being claimed a style with psychedelic elements widely used in architecture, interior design, fashion, pop and rock music.

Necessary Elements to Create True Art Nouveau

The style that is characterized as Art Nouveau creates a decadent modern mood. Every element of the interior can belong to it: from the floor made of parquet or wood and the prints on the walls up to the lighting and furnishings, which, usually, complete the whole image or, on contrary, become the first point to start with.

Walls in Art Nouveau Style

While keeping the neutral colors and their shades, like olive, sand, mustard, shades of grey, even browns, the walls should be patterned and decorated with ornaments, birds, insects, curves, etc.. In other words, the inspiration comes straight from nature.

Furniture

Typical for Art Nouveau is furniture made with natural materials, usually different types of wood. The accent goes to the lines. For example, the doors may resemble the wings of butterflies. Another example is a top line curved in a fancy shape.

Lighting

Lighting can be called the true quintessence of the whole movement of Art Nouveau style in interior design. Heavy chandeliers or table lamps made of stained glass and a bronze or iron base are hallmarks. The best examples of modern Art Nouveau lighting are created by the English brand Vaughan: handmade items of glazed ceramics and linen as the fabric for the lampshade - the classic code of this style. Another piece of lighting that helps to create the necessary mood is exemplified by the floor lamps of Italamp, represented on our website. This kind of lamp is made of metal with an iron finish, featuring a lampshade of Italian blown glass.

Furnishings

Furnishing is the easiest way to add an Art Nouveau mood and not exaggerate it. The main element would be mirrors in all possible shapes, decorated with metal frames or figures of animals and birds. Perfect pieces for this are represented by Jonathan Charles and Beaumont & Fletcher.
