History of Willowlamp
The story of the South African company Willowlamp began when its founder, eco architect Adam Hoets, was looking for a way to help with the suspension of curtains he was fabricating from ball-chains. The final breakthrough came when jewellery designer Sian Eliot joined his efforts, the team eventually managing to find a viable method thanks to which the chains could be fixed to the steel framework in a secure manner.
2005, the first Willowlamp creation was presented to the world, entirely assembled by hand, as the company would become known for internationally. In 2007, the Willowlamp notch system was finally patented. Based on the discovery of Hoets and Eliot, it allows curtains of intricately arranged ball-chains to be securely attached to the laser-cut steel frames now having become famous and associated with Willowlamp‘s worldwide unique brand.
Today, the completely handmade, one-of-a-kind lights by Willowlamp are in high demand all around the globe, their collections having already won multiple awards and decorating luxurious private residences as well as hotels in various pulsating cities.
Willowlamp: Perennial Sacred Geometry Merged with Cutting-Edge Technology
All of Willowlamp‘s products are meticuously handcrafted by an in-house team of skilled artisans. The precision laser-cut steel frame components are supplied by specialist industrial partners. The company also offers its clients the option to completely customize a design.
Looking through Willowlamp‘s products, one is amazed at the complex, seemingly organic patterns and soft colour shifts in the ball-chains of their lights. Most astonishing is the fact that these suspended chains can be arranged in such a complex fashion, lacking nothing of the angularity and stability of a solid structure, such that one often believes to see an unbroken surface.
The special attention paid to sacred geometry makes Willowlamp stand out among other companies. The result of which are stunning designs that are inspired by naturally occurring spirals, the abundant South African flora or patterns found in traditional African handicrafts, inviting to contemplate and bask in their sublime beauty.
Willowlamp: Ethereal and Elegant
Willowlamp offers lighting for the indoor use only. The types of light ing that can be acquired are chandeliers, pendants, lanterns, ceiling lamps, table lamps and floor lamps.
The astounding artistic ability of Willowlamp‘s team can be clearly seen in products such as the Spiral chandelier from the company‘s Nebula collection. With a wide colour range for the ball-chains to choose from, it features copper plated or solid brass components, a stainless steel frame cut with a laser and three separate electrical illumination systems, including an LED strip light and two G4-Halogen lamps, all of which are dimmable and can be controlled separately, giving sheer endless options for individual adaptation to both interior and mood. The chandelier‘s design takes inspiration from spiral patterns found in nature, both on the microcosmic as well as the macrocosmic scale. Its design concept is also supposed to evoke the image of a halographically projected cone shell, adding an all the more interesting element through its transparency.
Yet another example of Willowlamp‘s creativity is its chandelier based on the award-winning „Flower of Life“ design, which is a new interpretation of a 1920s classic displaying a stainless steel frame with the eponymous sacred geometric pattern. Featuring multiple levels, G9-Halogen lamps and coming in a variety of ball-chain finishes, there is also a version that is ceiling mounted.
