Reproduction of antique model. Louis XV Boulard armchair by Jean-Baptiste BOULARD, circa 1755-1760.
This armchair is a perfect copy of a very fine model by the excellent Parisian carpenter attached to the Garde Meuble de la Couronne from 1777, and who was an innovator very much in touch with the fashions of his time. In addition to very pure generous lines, clever moulding and gracious, balanced carving, enthusiasts will note the front en forme legs. Jean-Baptiste Boulard (master in 1754, died in 1789), whose workshop at Rue de Clery closed in 1832, a major carpenter in his time, produced the original of this magnificent chair. He used two different marques. The Elysee Palace, the Mobilier National Français, and many prestigious collections house the master’s works.
Louis XV Style The French style period from approximately 1730 to 1770, although this king was on the throne from 1715 (the Regence period ran from 1715 to 1723) until 1774. Inspiration taken from plants, hence a curvilinear style.
