Reproduction of antique model. Louis XV Couch, around 1760 Original: Private Collection, Brussels.
Resembling the great «bed chamber» or drawing-room chairs, this multipurpose couch consists of graceful curves still used at the end of the Louis XV style period. The central crest of the back is a very expressive feature of the «hump», which is more ornate, thus balancing the graceful curves joining bolsters at the same height. The elegantly-curved low seat, is carved with subtle flowers and foliage. This is an excellent piece of seating furniture.
Louis XV Style The French style period from approximately 1730 to 1770, although this king was on the throne from 1715 (the Regence period ran from 1715 to 1723) until 1774. Inspiration taken from plants, hence a curvilinear style.
